- Sandalwood is known as East Indian sandalwood or white
sandalwood because the heartwood is sometimes white. The tree is
harvested when mature at 30-40 years by uprooting it during the rainy
season. The sandalwood tree is parasitic in that a sapling gathers water and
nutrients from the roots of host plants, yet this relationship does not cause
damage to the host. Sandalwood has been used in incense, as a perfume,
and in medicine for thousands of years.

- The word lavender is derived from the Latin word lavera, “to wash”
because the Romans used flowers in their baths. The ancient Greeks,
Persians and Romans burnt lavender in rooms where people were sick.
Today lavender is grown in many countries, each version having somewhat
different properties. The plant is harvested in mid-summer, left to dry for a
couple of days to maximize the aroma, and then distilled.

sage was known to many ancient cultures. Indian sage is said it gave
